Traffic stop leads to Columbus police making drug arrests

COLUMBUS - Three people were arrested for drugs following a what started out as a traffic stop.

It happened on Tuesday near 13th Street and 26th Avenue.

Columbus police said an officer pulled over a vehicle driven by a man he knew had his license revoked.

A CPD spokesman said the officer arrested the driver and that he recognized two other people in the vehicle as known drug users.  They said he brought out the canine officer, who indicated there were drugs in the vehicle.

Police said during a vehicle search, they found part of a plastic bag containing trace amounts of suspected meth, a syringe and trace amounts of suspected meth on one of the car seats.

They arrested 21-year-old Ricardo Alvarez, 23-year-old Champaign McDowell and 28-year-old Ethan Will for possession of a controlled substance.  They also cited Alvarez for driving during revocation.

Alvarez and Will both have their bonds set at $15,000.  McDowell's bond is $10,000.
