One day after pleading guilty to federal tax charges an Omaha City Councilman says he won't resign and won't say he's sorry.

46-year-old Vinny Palermo, who represents South Omaha, has admitted to not filing his income tax returns for three years: 20-12, 13 and 14 when his tree trimming and removal company was raking in nearly half a million dollars, according to federal court records.

He's been ordered to pay 21-thousand dollars in "criminal restitution."

Leaving the council's weekly planning meeting, Palermo spoke briefly with reporters today including NCN's Joe Jordan (see video).

Palermo, a Democrat, was elected to the council in 2017 after serving on the Omaha School Board.

The Douglas County Republican Party has reportedly called on Palermo to resign.

He is scheduled to be sentenced December 9th in Omaha Federal Court.

He faces up to three years in prison and fines totaling 300-thousand dollars.
