GRETNA - Sarpy County Officials say a man is dead following a Friday evening accident in Gretna.

A press release from the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office says Sheriff's Deputies, the Nebraska State Patrol, and Gretna Fire and Rescue responded to an injury accident near the intersection of Highway 6 and 220th Street around 5:24 PM Friday. The initial report was that two vehicles collided head-on.

An investigation revealed an eastbound Ford Thunderbird driven by 46-year-old Brian Bullington of Red Oak, Iowa collided with a westbound vehicle driven by 28-year-old Elizabeth Beckenhauer of Ashland, Nebraska. Bullington crossed over the center line and into the westbound lanes, causing the collision.

Bullington was transported via medical helicopter to Nebraska Medicine Trauma Center in Omaha, where he later died as a result of his injuries. Beckenhauer was transported to Bergan Mercy Trauma Center by Gretna Fire and Rescue with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
