GRAND ISLAND - The first day of class has been delayed at Grand Island High School because of the discovery of mold in the building.

GIPS officials announced the delay Wednesday and say they made decision to postpone the start of high school until next Tuesday.

The school hired a scientist to investigate the issue and informed the district that the mold came from high humidity in the classrooms from unusual weather conditions.

They say the mold is non-toxic, but could cause allergic reactions in some cases.

No activities will take place inside the school until the 20th.

Elementary and middle school will start school as planned.
