HEBRON - After more recent, heavy rains, many areas of southeast Nebraska continue to deal with areal flooding.
One area hit particularly hard is the city of Hebron. Flooding from the Little Blue River has caused parts of 1st and 4th street to close.
Elsewhere in Thayer County, Highway 5 north of Deshler and numerous county roads remain closed due to flooding.
Thayer County roads department supervisor Roger Hofts urges drivers in these flooded areas to exercise caution and patience.
“Don't drive around the barricades,” he said. “When it's safe, we'll pick them up. Even if the water goes down and the barricades are still, that means there's still some road issues from material being washed away that needs to be replaced and so forth.”
On Wednesday, the Little Blue at Hebron measured at 15.5 feet, which is two feet above flood stage. The river should start to recede by Thursday. Affected roads will remain closed until the water has fully receded.
Hofts said the county will start to evaluate damages once the water goes down.
East central Nuckolls and central Thayer County remain under a Flood Warning until 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
