NORFOLK - A Northeast Nebraska small business has been recognized for its contributions to its community.
The Norfolk Chamber of Commerce honored the Weiland family of Weiland Inc. as 2019 Nebraska Small Business Persons of The Year.
The title, given to them by the U.S. Small Business Administration, was recognized by the chamber for their accomplishments.
Leon Weiland founded Weiland Inc. in 1984 and makes custom doors and windows for businesses.
The company recently built a new headquarters in Norfolk in November 2018.
Weiland says the award is worth more to him than just the title.
After growing the business for 25 years, Leon began turning over control of his business to his son, Carl, and sons-in-law, Jason Ash and Rob Haake, in 2009.
The managing partners have been running the business since 2011, and in an eight-year span have tripled the size of the company.
