BEATRICE - Tuesday night's Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics had to be brought inside, falling victim to the rain and cool weather.

Beatrice Police Officer Derek Hosick, speaking to a gathering inside the Beatrice Municipal Auditorium…as Special Olympics athletes, law officers, coaches, friends and family gathered to help send them off to the Special Olympics state games kicking off in Omaha.
Bryan Cook gave tribute to Beatrice Police, Special Olympics Coordinator Toni Reiman…the coaches and the athletes who will be competing this year.

The athletes took a lap around the gymnasium floor at the auditorium and posed for a group picture, prior to their departure for participation in the games. The Special Olympics Summer Games are in Omaha, today through Sunday.
Torch run events have been held in several Nebraska communities in advance of the games.
