NORFOLK, NE - 'Tis the season of giving.
That's what Library Reference Assistant Lisa Peters says Christmas is about.
"This time of the year the main thing of the Christmas season is giving. We put too much emphasis on receiving instead of giving.”
Over the last few weeks, Peters has been thinking about how lucky she is and what other people don't have. She wanted to do something to give back this year after hearing an important message from her Pastor.
"Our pastor said that on Thanksgiving we are blessed for everything we have but the next day we go out and buy more."
That statement got her thinking. With approval of the Library Director, Jessica Chamberlain the library now will be collecting food items for the Good Neighbors Food Pantry.
"I encourage any patrons or community members to stop by. Maybe if you're at the grocery store grab extra cans of something or boxes of food. Bring your kids or grandkids and teach them the importance of giving.”
The collection box is near the front entrance of the library and anyone can donate. Good Neighbors has indicated that they are especially low on canned tomatoes and crackers for soup. They are also in need of sloppy joe sauce, canned meat, jello, and pudding. All other non-perishable canned and boxed items are also welcome.
Peters says she's been teaching her kids the importance of giving and hope others will do the same
They will be collecting items from December 15-30.
