State Patrol investigating fatal shooting in rural Kearney County

An adult woman was found deceased and three children under 12 were hospitalized. Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

MINDEN, Neb. — The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating a death in rural Kearney County after an adult woman was found deceased and three children were discovered with apparent gunshot wounds Saturday afternoon.

According to a news release from the Nebraska State Patrol, the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene early Saturday afternoon. A preliminary investigation revealed an adult female and three children suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The adult female was pronounced dead at the scene.

The three children, all under the age of 12, were transported by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney for treatment. Two of the children were later transferred to Children’s Hospital in Omaha. Authorities said all three children are expected to survive.

The Nebraska State Patrol Investigative Services Division is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office and the Kearney County Attorney’s Office.

Law enforcement officials said they are confident there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Names are not being released at this time to protect the identities of the victims. The investigation remains ongoing.
