District wrestling roundup: Scottsbluff finishes second, Sidney ninth at Class B3 District wrestling meet

Scottsbluff crowns three champs, finishes second at Class B3 Districts in Wahoo. Sidney’s Cayson Boltjes wins 215 title, Raiders place ninth.

WAHOO, Neb. — Scottsbluff crowned three individual champions and finished second in the team standings Saturday at the Class B3 District wrestling tournament at Wahoo High School, while Sidney placed ninth and qualified multiple wrestlers for state.

Beatrice won the team title with 194 points. Scottsbluff was second with 151, followed by Elkhorn North with 138. Sidney totaled 60.5 points to finish ninth.

Scottsbluff’s Anthony Shifflett claimed the 106-pound title, pinning Camden Welch of Ashland-Greenwood in 2:00 in the championship match. At 113, Oscar Brown earned a 13-9 decision over Gretna’s Gage Rupiper to secure another district title for the Bearcats.

Daylon Adams added a championship at 285, pinning Beatrice’s Gavyn Rhoden in 1:44 in the finals. Scottsbluff also had Carson Lucius place third at 138, while Touny Hrasky-Brown (157) and Kaden Schneider (165) each finished fourth.

Sidney’s Cayson Boltjes captured the 215-pound district championship with a 4-0 decision over Boys Town’s Jalyn Conner. Boltjes improved to 34-1 on the season.

The Red Raiders also saw Kaine Hill place third at 126, earning an 8-6 decision over Milford’s Jonny Kohout in the consolation final.

Pierce claims Class C4 District title; Bridgeport places sixth in Broken Bow

BROKEN BOW, Neb. — Pierce captured the Class C4 District wrestling team championship Saturday in Broken Bow, scoring 170.5 points to outdistance Chadron (123.5) and co-host Broken Bow and Gibbon, which tied for third with 115 points.

Mitchell finished fifth with 109.5 points, followed by Bridgeport in sixth at 93.5.

Bridgeport advanced four wrestlers to state with top-four finishes. Sebastian Quigley placed third at 144 pounds, earning a medical forfeit win in the consolation match. James Jeffords finished fourth at 150, falling 7-2 to Chadron’s Jayce Hoffman in the third-place match.

At 157, Illias Lehman took fourth after a 12-8 decision loss to Gibbon’s Rogelio Hernandez. Ryker Norman added a fourth-place finish at 190, falling by pin to Gibbon’s Adan Tamayo in the consolation final.

Pierce secured individual titles from Brenden Bolling at 157 and Kyle Kuehler at 190, while also placing multiple wrestlers in the top four to seal the team title.

Chadron crowned Layne Davidson as champion at 165 pounds, defeating West Holt’s Lane Keogh by technical fall in the finals. Broken Bow claimed individual titles from Braxon Rynearson at 150, Cobe Wells at 175 and Devon Baum at 285.

Other individual champions included Cozad’s Wyatt Hueftle at 106 and Drake Hasbrouck at 144, Ogallala’s Diego Juarez at 113, North Bend Central’s Philip Streff at 120 and Cash Stanek at 132, Mitchell’s Drey Gardner at 126, Gothenburg’s Maddox Gilligan at 138 and Gibbon’s Jose Ramirez-Aguilar at 215.

Bayard, Garden County place multiple wrestlers at Class D4 District in Bartley

BARTLEY, Neb. — Hitchcock County claimed the team title Saturday at the Class D4 District wrestling tournament at Southwest Public Schools, finishing with 129.5 points. Mullen was second with 108, followed by North Platte St. Patrick’s with 99 and Arapahoe with 98.

Bayard finished 14th in the team standings with 51.5 points, while Garden County placed 15th with 48.

Bayard’s Nolan Dueker placed third at 126 pounds, earning a 2-0 decision over Hemingford’s Andrew Miller in the consolation final. Coy Armstrong added a third-place finish at 150 with a fall over Hitchcock County’s Samuel Hare in 3:19. Jared Perkins placed fourth at 190.

Garden County’s Cable Larsen finished second at 138 pounds, falling to Sutherland’s Scotty Anderson in the championship match. Jase Roberson placed fourth at 165.

Other area state qualifiers included Kimball’s Britton Culek, who placed fourth at 106; Banner County’s Tate Olsen, runner-up at 113; Perkins County’s Leighton Fryzek, third at 113; and South Platte’s Drake Arensdorf, fourth at 138.

Hyannis’ Dillon Hebbert won the 106-pound title, while Sandhills/Thedford’s Caleb Clark captured the 113-pound championship. North Platte St. Patrick’s Logan Robirds claimed the 126-pound crown, and Hitchcock County secured titles at 215 and 285.

The top four finishers in each weight class advanced to the state wrestling championships Feb. 19-21. The girls state wrestling tournament is Feb. 17 and 18. Both tournaments will be at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.
