School closes due to high number of sick students

SHELBY, Neb. — Shelby-Rising City Public Schools will be closed Wednesday and Thursday due to a large number of sick students.

District officials say 113 students, nearly 29% of the student population were absent Tuesday. Administrators say the illness appears to require several days to up to a week for recovery.

School buildings will be closed Feb. 11 and 12 to allow for deep cleaning and disinfecting of classrooms and common areas.

All district facilities will remain closed for practices through Thursday to allow custodial staff to sanitize the buildings.

Students are expected to return to class Monday.
