‘Made me emotional’: Beatrice’s Harrison Vetrovsky relishes accomplishment of two single game records

BEATRICE, Neb. - In the game of basketball, sometimes you’re just on. You hit every shot, grab every rebound, and find every loose ball.

But sometimes, that also leads to the type of game where you break two single-game records - in the same game. That was the case for Beatrice Orangemen junior Harrison Vetrovsky.

“I remember one time during overtime, I was thinking ‘Gosh, we got to him scoring more we got to get him more looks’ and then afterwards they tell you what he sores and you think ‘What was I thinking’?” Beatrice Head Coach Jackson Weeks said.

45 points, 26 rebounds - Harrison Vetrovsky broke both school single-game records for Beatrice in a 68-62 double overtime win over Ralston.

Vetrovsky, who averages a double-double per game, said it felt like nothing more than a good day at the office.

“At the end of regulation, I thought i had maybe 20-25,” Vetrovsky said. “I didn’t score in the first overtime and made a few free throws, hit a three in the second, then in the handshake line my teammate Tyson Cerveny told me I had 45 points and I just couldn’t believe it.”

Vetrvosky passes Crew Meints in the points department and Grant Smith for rebounds. He says the single-game points record was always a goal, but the rebounds caught him by surprise.

“I was really happy to get that record,” Vetrovsky said. “That was one I always really wanted, but that rebounds thing was a good feeling too because I had no idea.”

Vetrovsky gives much of the credit to his teammates for getting him the ball and setting things up, but also his coaching staff. It was equally as special for first year head coach Jackson Weeks.

“Throughout the season you don’t have the time to reflect on the great things you’re doing,” Weeks said. “That was certainly a moment that, as a coach, you feel so proud and so unfortunate that you got to be a part of that.”

Now, Vetrvosky’s name will be on the record boards inside Beatrice High School for generations of students, staff, fans, and even opponents to see. Something he doesn’t take for granted.

“It kind of makes me emotional to be honest,” Vetrovsky said. “It’s a really good feeling, I chased that record for my whole high school career. I always wanted that and just have people tell me that’s a greta record, it’s nice to hear.”
