The Kimball Longhorn basketball teams were in North Platte on Friday to take on North Platte St. Pats.

The girls, coming off an early victory against Mitchell, went up against a lady Irish team thirsty for their first victory of the season. The Irish did get the lead away from the longhorns early in the first quarter, and held it into the third quarter. That is when the three point shooting came alive for the lady longhorns and foul trouble caught up with the lady Irish. Each team would have a player foul out of the game in the fourth quarter, but the longhorns were able to keep scoring and keep the lead. The longhorns surpass the .500 mark on the season with the victory. They will go into next weeks WTC tournament 9-8 on the season. 2-0 in non-tournament conference play.

The boys also had to fight back, trailing by as many as 14 points at times in the second quarter. The Irish came into the match-up 9-8 and took advantage of some early fouls by the longhorns to get a healthy lead. The longhorns did fight back in the second half and led by two for most of the fourth quarter. Late game intentional fouls by the Irish gave the longhorns a more comfortable lead from the free throw line. Kimball won 71-66. The longhorns are back in action next Thursday to open the WTC tournament.
