BEATRICE, Neb. - The Beatrice School Board now has an open seat.

In Monday's Board of Education meeting, board member Marissa Centeno submitted her resignation from her post. She described the decision as one that comes with "mixed emotions", saying her family would be leaving the country.

Centeno says it was a rewarding experience to have served on the school board.

"Serving on the board has been an incredible honor and I'm deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve our students, families and staff. I have a great deal of respect for the work that continues and the dedication  of everyone involved in supporting our schools.. I wish the district success in the years ahead."

Centeno was one year into a four year term on the school board.

The board says the search for a replacement will begin immediately.
