VALENTINE, Neb. - Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire at Valentine Berean Bible Church on Thursday morning. Fire Chief Terry Engles said the fire started shortly after 10 a.m. when a portable heater’s exhaust pipe ignited a piece of particle board.

“People were in the building and reported it quickly. Thankfully it was caught early,” said Engles.

Firefighters were on scene for around 20 minutes, and damage was extremely minimal.

Meanwhile, a red flag warning is in effect for the Sandhills Thursday due to the high fire danger.
