Hastings resident, Diane M. (Kucera) Synek, cherished wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2025, after a sudden, unexpected illness.

 

Rosary will be at 10 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese with Father Denton Morris officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. A cause that was near to Diane’s heart was supporting women and children in need. In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that memorials be given to a cause that is close to your own heart. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family. Diane was born October 14, 1951, to Edmund and Dolores (Kohmetscher) Kucera. She grew up on a farm near Lawrence, NE and attended Sacred Heart School and Lawrence High School. In 1973, she graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. On June 7, 1975, she married John Synek. They raised two children, Doug and Kathy, and enjoyed their entire married life living in the rural area near Deweese, NE. Diane was a teacher for many years, followed by a career in banking and finance. She was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and Altar Society, and the Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. Diane appreciated the friendships she made over the years through her school, work and church activities. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and her church involvement. Diane’s greatest joy was being with her family. She especially loved spending time with her seven grandchildren and attending all their activities. She is survived by her husband, John; children, Doug (Paula) Synek and Kathy (Larry) Briggs; grandchildren, Quentin (Hope Kohmetscher) Synek, Jarrett Synek, Emma Synek, Tucker Synek, Natalie Briggs, Kayla Briggs, and Haylie Briggs; brothers, Joe (Lisa) Kucera, Bob (Vicki) Kucera, Dan (Diane) Kucera, Mike (Karen) Kucera, and Greg (Teena) Kucera; brother-law, Richard Synek; sister-in-law, Joyce (LeRoy) Lang; aunts, Patty Kucera and Helen Kohmetscher; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Diane was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Joe & Clara Synek; and sister-in-law, Darlene Synek.
