KEARNEY, Neb. - A familiar face is returning to Kearney Public Schools.

Former superintendent Kent Edwards will take over as KPS associate superintendent following the departure of Chris Loofe.

Edwards initially hired current KPS superintendent Jason Mundorf as associate superintendent during his tenure, and now in a full-circle moment, Mundorf is hiring Edwards for the same role.

After retiring in 2022, Edwards realized that retirement lacked the sense of purpose he craved. "I missed the daily opportunities to make a difference," Edwards shared.

"KPS has always held a special place in my heart, and I look forward to supporting and serving Mr. Mundorf and his goals for the continued growth and success of KPS,” said Edward.

The other three candidates for the position, including Edwards, interviewed with a KPS administrative team with Edwards being selected to return to the district

Edwards served as Superintendent of KPS from 2016-2022.
