OVERTON, Neb. — Parts of Interstate 80 are shut down in Nebraska after slick conditions led to crashes.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation issued a travel alert on social media around 12:45 Sunday afternoon.

“Slick conditions have resulted in closures on I-80 due to multiple crashes," the NDOT said in the post. "Please be prepared to stop or detour as responders work crash scenes.”

The 511 Map showed a closure of the eastbound lanes of I-80 at Maxwell. Crews cleaned up the accident by 1:30 p.m. The map also showed I-80 westbound closed around Overton, which is 21 miles west of Kearney. An overturned semi trailer forced the closure.

The NDOT lists nearly every highway in the state as at least partially covered with snow or ice.

Outside of the Interstate, US Highway 75 is closed in both directions near the Nebraska-Kansas line southwest of Falls City.
