Quinn sentenced for convictions in five cases related to Kearney crime spree
KEARNEY, Neb. — A Grand Island man could spend two decades in prison for convictions in five different cases.
The cases date back to a series of events in Kearney on March 18, 2023. Authorities say in court documents that Jerome Quinn, who is now 27, and Ronnie Swartz broke into a man’s home early in the morning and robbed him at gunpoint. Later, investigators say the pair stole a pickup from an apartment complex and fired shots at the victim, who was pursuing them. Police eventually found Quinn, Swartz, and another man trespassing at a different house and arrested them. Officers found several different kinds of illegal drugs with the suspects.
While in jail, Quinn was accused of assault by a confined person three separate times over the course of three months.
Quinn made a plea deal that involved pleading guilty to charges in all five cases. Last week, a judge sentenced him to one year for each of the jail assaults, 9-13 years for attempting to use a weapon to commit a felony in connection to the pickup theft and 6-9 years for robbery. In total, the judge sentenced Quinn to 18-25 years in prison for the convictions.
Swartz is set to be sentenced on Friday morning.
