HASTINGS, Neb. - One of the biggest upsets of the weekend in Nebraska high school football also included one of the craziest plays.
Adams Central faced 4th down and 15 with 43 seconds left while trailing Class C-1 #5 Cozad by five points. The Patriots executed the hook-and-lateral play to free up Brodie Luksan for a 44-yard go-ahead touchdown. Quarterback Jack Sughroue made the pass and Nick Mousel made the initial catch and pitch.
Even after taking a 29-26 lead, the Patriots still had to stop one of the state's top offenses from scoring over the final 34 seconds. Sophomore Riley Propp sealed the win by intercepting star Cozad quarterback Noah Shoemaker on the next possession.
The win helped Adams Central improve to 3-4 and dropped Cozad to 5-2.
Adams Central's game against Lincoln Christian will be broadcast on ESPN Tri-Cities (1550 AM/92.7 FM KICS) on Friday.
