HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings City Administrator Shawn Metcalf is on paid administrative leave.

Hastings Mayor Corey Stutte confirmed Friday afternoon that Metcalf was on leave which began Thursday, Sept. 4. Stutte did not explain why Metcalf was on leave, saying it was confidential personnel matter.

When asked if Metcalf requested the leave or was placed on leave, Stutte declined to answer, again citing a personnel matter.

In the interim, Assistant City Administrator Mark Funkey will serve as the acting city administrator, Stutte said. Funkey, along with City Finance Director Roger Nash, will continue work on the next fiscal year’s budget, which must be submitted to the state.

Local4 reached out to each member of the Hastings City Council seeking comment. Each declined, citing it as a personnel matter.

Metcalf has served as city administrator since his appointment in September 2022. During his tenure, he has been involved in various projects, including planning the renovation of Hastings City Hall.
