Adding a personal touch to the Moscow Mule
SIDNEY – In 2017, a business venture started with it's history linked to a college party.
The unique Moscow Mule mugs at Boss City Brewing Company are made by a craftsmen in O’Neill, Neb. Bryce Wood, a member of the Handlebend team, visited the Sidney brewery on Thursday to share the company's story.
"Handlebend started back in 2017 after a college party trick that Michael Stepp created. He went home and built his own Moscow Mule mug, took it around to college parties and partied with it for quite a few years. All his buddies wanted one, so he built a few more, and turned it into a business," Wood said.
The Handlebend name went from what could be called a college prank to a growing enterprise.
Handlebend has several ventures in the town of O'Neill, from the name-brand mugs to the event center.
"We've got a bar and a coffee shop up front. There's a flower shop in there. We've got a event space in the middle, and the copper shop is in the back," he said.
One of the unique mugs offered is the "Cinch," a mug with a leather wrap. Handlebend partnered with Tuff Larson, a saddle maker from O'Neill.
