Grand Island social worker receives state recognition

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A social worker from Grand Island is being recognized at the state level.
Lincoln Elementary’s social worker Kristin Schulltz was named 2024 Nebraska School Social Worker of the Year.
Grand Island Public Schools says that Schultz has been in the district for 18 years and at Lincoln for 17. Part of her job is to work with local and state support systems to make sure Lincoln students, families and staff feel the school has their back.
Throughout her years, Schultz has been part of students' lives and has helped families gain independence from abusive situations, connected families to needed community resources, and even connected students with positive role models.
“I just like making everybody’s lives easier,” Schultz said.

The award was given by the School Social Work Association of Nebraska.
Lincoln Elementary students and staff joined SSWAN representatives, GIPS administrators and social worker, and Schultz’s family to surprise her with the honor on Tuesday.
