KEARNEY, Neb. — Two people are recovering from injuries after a car accident involving a sheriff’s deputy.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office says in happened late Friday night at the intersection of 56th St. and Avenue N, which is on the northeast side of Kearney. According to a news release, a 61-year-old deputy was driving east in a marked sheriff’s office vehicle when he collided with a northbound vehicle that was turning west.

Both drivers were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The sheriff’s office says the deputy, who has been with the department for 33 years, was treated for minor injuries and released. The news release says the sheriff’s office’s thoughts and concerns remain with the other driver, who is 29-year-old woman, and her continued recovery. The release didn’t specify her condition.

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the collision.
