KEARNEY, Neb. - A blizzard warning is in place for South-Central Nebraska on Monday.

A heavy, wet snow has covered Kearney and surrounding areas by 11:00 Monday morning. Forecasters say to expect six to nine inches to accumulate before the storm leaves the area. In addition to heavy snowfall rates causing visibility problems, forecasters say wind speeds will increase greatly in the afternoon and evening hours. The National Weather Service predicts wind gusts of 45 mph or greater by 6:00 p.m.

All highways and Interstate 80 are considered completely covered by snow, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation 511 map. Hundreds of NDOT plows are out across the state and each major city has its own plows working major roads. Snow emergencies are in effect in each of the Tri-Cities.
