KEARNEY, Neb. — The public will find out today which academic degrees and faculty positions are most likely to be cut at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen is scheduled to host a presentation and discussion today at 3:00 at the student union. A media advisory says he will discuss plans to discontinue programs in response to a budget deficit.

The cuts are a result of a $58 million shortfall across the whole university system. UNK is tasked with making up $4.3 million of that. A working draft of the budget reduction proposal includes eliminating 14 degree programs and 33 positions in 14 departments.

Students and faculty held a protest and participated in a forum last month. UNK’s budget plan must be submitted to the university president’s office by December 1.
