KEARNEY, Neb. — Police are identifying a Kearney woman as the person who died after being hit by a train.
Kearney Police say a westbound train hit 34-year-old Francine Lucero-Bennett shortly before 1:00 Thursday morning. The collision happened about 300 feet west of the railroad crossing at Central Ave. in downtown Kearney. Union Pacific officials discovered the body lying between the middle set of train tracks around 9:00 a.m.
Lucero-Bennett was out of jail on bond when the incident happened. She had a recent encounter with police, but it's unknown if that is somehow connected to her death.
