COZAD, Neb. -- Authorities said they arrested a Colorado man after he was reportedly pointing a rifle during an altercation at the rest area.

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, with help from the Dawson County Sheriff's Office and the Lexington Police Department, arrested 28-year-old Jonah McKinley of Colorado.

McKinley was reportedly pointing a rifle at another person at the Interstate 80 Eastbound Rest Area near Cozad.

Around 8:55 a.m. Sunday, the NSP said they got a report of a verbal altercation between two men at the rest stop.

The person who reported the altercation to the NSP said the man he was arguing with pulled out a rifle and pointed it towards him.

The NSP said the reporting party said he saw McKinley place the gun into a minivan, and then get into another vehicle.

Both the minivan and McKinley's Chevrolet Malibu left the rest area together heading east on I-80.

NSP troopers said they were able to find the Malibu near mile marker 233 and pulled McKinley over.

McKinley was then taken into custody.

Deputies with the Dawson County Sheriff's Office said they were able to find and pull over the minivan.

In the minivan reportedly driven by McKinley's girlfriend, authorities said they found a defaced rifle.

NSP said troopers found that McKinley is prohibited from possessing a firearm, and was in violation of a protection order that his girlfriend reportedly has against him.

McKinley was arrested for making terroristic threats, use of a firearm to commit a felony, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of a short rifle, violation of a protection order, and no operator's license.

He has been lodged in Dawson County Jail.
