GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - An “amicable agreement” has been reached between JOANN and the redevelopers of the Conestoga Mall, according to Woodsonia attorney Greg Scaglione.

Scaglione told our partners at Local4 on Wednesday that the agreement between the two companies will end the pending litigation and allow the historic redevelopment of the Conestoga Mall to proceed.

He said as a result, the current JOANN location in Grand Island will close to the public at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, 2023.

The two have been in a dispute after the craft store sued Woodsonia, asking a judge to void a section of its original lease with the former mall owner, that any condemnation proceedings is a breach of its lease and that Woodsonia should pay $2.4 million in damage.

The companies had been negotiating since September 2022.

In a joint statement JOANN said it remains committed to its loyal customer base in Grand Island and will explore all options to continue serving the crafters and sewists in this community.

Until a new location is identified, JOANN encourages customers to visit their website for access to its full product assortment.

Here is the text of a joint statement released by Woodsonia 281 and JOANN Wednesday:

“JOANN and Woodsonia are pleased to report that they have reached an amicable agreement which will end the pending litigation and allow the historic redevelopment of the Conestoga Mall to proceed. As a result, the current JOANN location in Grand Island will close to the public at 6pm on Sunday, June 11, 2023. JOANN remains committed to its loyal customer base in Grand Island and will explore all options to continue serving the crafters and sewists in this community. Until a new location is identified, JOANN encourages customers to visit joann.com for convenient access to its full product assortment.”

When asked, Scaglione said it has not been decided whether Jo-Ann’s will be in the new Conestoga Marketplace.

Scaglione said negotiations with Best Buy are proceeding and that an announcement regarding that store may be coming soon.

Woodsonia’s lawsuit against AMC Theaters is still pending in Hall County District Court. AMC is appealing a lower court ruling that Woodsonia legally evicted the theater from the current mall.
