Last full day at Lincoln Elementary school in Grand Island turns fun with ‘science day’

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Kids put what they learned through the year to the test on Tuesday’s science day.
In their last full day at school before summer vacation, students at Lincoln Elementary School in Grand Island had a fun ’science day.’
Thanks to the Edgerton Explorit Center, students spent their day mixing fun with learning.
Principal Breanna McDonald said activities like this make kids enjoy learning.
“I think it’s really great for them, because it helps them connect that learning can be fun,” McDonald said.
In the morning, they had the opportunity to hear a presentation about electricity. At the gym, there was a display of different stations where kids were able to play and explore a variety of activities.
Liang O’Brien, who helped organize the event, said she hopes the day was more than a learning experience.
“We all wanted the last day of school to be memorable, to be special for the children and we also wanted them to apply all the knowledge they have received throughout the year,” O'Brien said.
Kids were also able to make slime, mallonaut spacesuit building, spectroscopes, and even stomp rockets.
Aside from a fun day, McDonald hopes this will lead into next year.
“I also hope they build that background knowledge and make those connections so when they come in the fall there’s those ideas that are still there that they can build upon for the next year,” McDonald said.
