GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The Grand Island Police Department said they have arrested a 16-year-old in connection to the death of Todd Scherer

GIPD said that as the investigation progressed through the afternoon and evening, they identified another suspect.

Authorities said they arrested a 16-year-old male because of his role in the robbery, assault and shooting which GIPD said caused the death of Scherer.

Officials said that it appears Scherer and the suspects knew each other and this was not a random attack.

GIPD said property belonging to Scherer was taken, some of which was later recovered by law enforcement.

This is an ongoing investigation, and authorities said additional witness interviews and evidence are being collected.

GIPD arrested the 16-year-old Grand Island male around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, and he was booked into the Hall County Jail.
