Grand Island, Neb. — Grand Island is planning to extend the current trail system to connect the gaps in them.

At Tuesday’s meeting, council members discussed the approval of preliminary design services for the west connector trail.

The trail project will construct a trail from the intersection of North Road and Old Potash Highway to the City Water Tower Park on Engleman Road. The trail would be 10 feet wide and about 1.4 miles long.

Parks and Recreation Director Todd Park said the conceptual design and topographic survey will help the city when applying for grants that will help pay for the project.

JEO Consulting is creating the preliminary design for about $30,000.

Food and beverage tax funds will be utilized to help pay the project.
