HASTINGS, NE -- Grand Island Central Catholic, playing without their top player, made a season-high 10 three-pointers to beat Adams Central 50-49 and hand the Patriots their first loss of the season.

Senior Lucy Ghaifan, who leads the Crusaders (10-5) in points and rebounds, didn't suit up for the game after suffering a head injury Friday night against Northwest. Still, GICC was unfazed on the road and used a hot shooting night to get the win over the Patriots (14-1).

GICC built an 8-3 lead but gave up nine straight points to trail 12-8 early in the second quarter. They controlled the game from then on. The Crusaders splashed in 10 threes, six of which came in the first half, and made enough free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Two Adams Central players fouled out and the team committed untimely turnovers. Still, the Patriots had the ball with a chance to tie the game on the final possession but made a layup with time running out to lose by one point.
