FAIRBURY - The Fairbury School Board moved quickly hiring from within for next years Superintendent.   The board held a special meeting Saturday morning approving a contract on a 5-0 vote to name their High School Principal Sean Molloy as Superintendent starting next school year.

The move comes after Fairbury's current Superintendent, Stephen Grizzle accepted an interim superintendent position at South Central Nebraska Unified School District #5.  Grizzle will be helping Sandy Creek and Lawrence-Nelson schools split into separate districts in 2024, before retiring.

Board President Angie Judd said Fairbury was fortunate to have the right person for the job already employed in the district.

“Last week after learning of Mr. Grizzle’s resignation, the board of education negotiating committee met and discussed options moving forward. The committee felt fortunate to have a strong candidate within the district, who for four years has been a part of and understands the needs of FPS.  With confidence, the committee recommended Mr. Molloy for the position. We are excited to announce that the board offered Sean the superintendent position this morning and he accepted. "

Sean Molloy has been in education since 2012, started work in Fairbury as the intermediate principal in 2021 and became Secondary principal last year.  He recently was selected as the 2022 Outstanding New Principal of the Year by The Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals.

Judd said the school board was excited that Molloy accepted the position.  "Together with the board, Stephen and Sean will work to ensure a smooth transition."
