The Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education is revealing the final three candidates for the interim superintendent position.
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education is revealing the final three candidates for the interim superintendent position.
The position will be vacant effective Jan. 11, after Dr. Tawana Grover announced last month that she will resign from the position.
During yesterday’s meeting, the board announced it had narrowed the search for interim superintendent and the Nebraska Association of School Boards had helped.
Friday, according to a news release, the Grand Island Board of Education announced that it is planning to hire a full-time interim superintendent for the school district and had three people in mind.
Matthew Fisher, Dr. Virginia Moon, and Dr. Michael Teahon have been selected to be the finalists for the position.
Fisher, from Grand Island, currently serves as the Director of Public Finance at First National Capital Markets and served as Superintendent of Northwest Public Schools from 2012-2019.
Moon, from Omaha, most recently served as the Interim Superintendent for Centennial Public Schools from 2020-2021. She has also served as Interim Superintendent for Kearney Public Schools, Omaha Public Schools, Broken Bow Public Schools and Permanent Superintendent at Ralston Public Schools from 1998-2009.
Teahon, from Kearney, currently serves as Department Chair and Associate Professor of the Educational Administration Department at UNK. He also served as the Superintendent of Gothenburg Public Schools from 2001-2019.
The interviews will take place on Tuesday. Candidates will spend time with the Board, executive cabinet members, building level administrator and touring the district.
Shari Becker from the NASB will continue to serve as a professional consultant helping to facilitate the process for each candidate.
After interviews, the Board will then deliberate and offer the position to a candidate as soon as possible. The chosen candidate’s name will be presented at a public Board meeting with a motion to approve their hiring as the GIPS Interim Superintendent.
