KEARNEY, NE — Buffalo County non-profits continue to push to raise funds on the area’s biggest day of giving.

Give Where You Live is in its 10th year. It’s grown from raising $450,000 in its first year, to raising $1.4 million last year. The event is spearheaded by the Kearney Area Community Foundation. President/CEO Judi Sickler says the giving day promotes 181 different charities.

“The kind of sneaky surprise is they go in thinking they’re going to support their favorite charity and they find five more," Sickler said. "That’s kind of the magic of it and that’s why I think we’ve seen the compounding growth over the years.”

35 non-profits hosted events as part of this year’s Discover Local Giving theme. A passport program encouraged people to visit as many charities as possible, exposing them to therapy horses, rescue dogs, a new pickleball facility, the Special Olympics team and more.

Donations will be accepted until midnight at givewhereyoulive.net.
