KEARNEY, Neb. — There’s a new person in charge of the Buffalo County Assessor’s Office.

Roy Meusch won election as county assessor in the general election. The Buffalo County Board of Commissioners appointed him to take over slightly ahead of schedule due to Ethel Skinner’s resignation.

He says the office is in need of structure and revamping.

“I want to have an open door. I want to have an open door to the taxpayers, to the property owners so they can come and visit with our office," Meusch said. "They can come visit with me and feel like they can seek answers and get answers to their questions.”

The county assessor’s office has 10 employees who work to put values on more than 25,000 parcels every year. Meusch has worked in the office for four years. Previously, he spent 25 years as a contractor building homes in Buffalo County.

Meusch says he expects property values to look different when new valuations come out. He asks for people’s patience as he makes changes.
