KEARNEY, Neb. -- The World Affairs Conference exposes UNK students to a variety of global topics and viewpoints.

The 2022 James E. Smith Conference, For Better or Worse: Crossing the Line brings a variety of speakers from around the world and to stimulate thought and discussion about the world.

UNK History Professor Carol Lily said the purpose of the conference is to make sure students have a familiarity and awareness of the events happening around the world, and how those events can affect them.

“Every year it seems that is more obvious and more, more important that students understand what’s going on in the world and how we are connected to it and how it affects us and how we affect it,” said.

Lily emphasized the importance of learning from the world around us and the importance of being cultured.

“Culture matters too, right, and there’s a lot that we can learn from other cultures not just that they can learn from us," said.

UNK World Affairs conference takes place Monday until 8:30 p.m. and tomorrow until 12:15 p.m. at the Student Union.
