GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- It’s been a project that’s been cooking up since summer and is finally seeing light.

Festoon Lights will give 3rd St. a new look and will cover six blocks.

Railside Executive Director Sherry Siwinski said it will be a "blast from the past" since at one point in the 30s and 40s Grand Island put up the lights during the holidays. This time, she said it will be year long.

“That is our goal here at Railside is to make this a vibrant family friendly area for people to feel like they can come and walk the streets and go to a cafe or a restaurants or shop the shops,” said Siwinski.

Four blocks of the street will be done by the end of the week. The remaining blocks will be finished by Nov. 18.

In addition, the plaza expansion project is underway. Siwinski said it’s a huge project that involved a lot of people.

“We will now will have a permanent stage down there for concerts and all kinds of activities we're working on that process of coming up with rental agreements so that more people have more access to that and rent it out,” said Siwinski.

That project is set to be done by the end of the year if the weather permits.
