The Nebraska State Patrol says a Chicago man was apprehended and faces a slew of charges after a pursuit that reportedly exceeded speeds of 110 miles per hour.
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- One person is in custody after a pursuit on Interstate 80 in central Nebraska.
According to Nebraska State Patrol Public Relations Director Cody Thomas, an NSP trooper claimed to witness a Hyundai Elantra driving over 100 miles per hour on I-80 westbound.
Shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the trooper attempted a traffic stop on I-80 south of Wood River and the driver pulled over to the shoulder, Thomas said. As the trooper approached the vehicle to contact the driver, the driver reportedly accelerated and fled at a high rate of speed. The trooper initiated a pursuit, Thomas said.
The vehicle allegedly continued westbound with speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour. After approximately 15 minutes, troopers were able to successfully deploy stop sticks to bring the vehicle to a stop south of Kearney, approximately 27 miles west of where the pursuit initially began. The vehicle came to a stop in the median of I-80, where the driver was taken into custody without further incident.
During the pursuit, Thomas said, the trooper observed the driver throw multiple items out of the vehicle. Another trooper was able to locate a handgun that had allegedly been thrown from the vehicle north of Denman.
The driver, 32-year-old Steven Little of Chicago, was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon, driving under the influence of alcohol, obstructing a peace officer, and numerous traffic violations.
Little was lodged in Hall County Jail.
