SIDNEY, Neb. — The Oktoberfest celebration was highlighted with a parade through Sidney.

The parade began at 10:00 a.m. and ended at 11:30 a.m. The multitude of floats, bands, dancers, and trucks traveled through town on the blocked off Illinois St.

Both sides of the sidewalk were packed with people of all ages.

Former Sidney Raider, Grant Housmann said he enjoys coming home and seeing the Oktoberfest parade.

“The parade was pretty cool,” Housmann said. “The whole town was there; it was good time.”

For the former high school football player, the Oktoberfest parade is a long-time tradition.

“We grew up in Sidney, so we’ve been going to it since the year 2000,” Housmann said. “I missed the past three years, and this is my first year back.”

Sidney Alumni Braydon Cortney said Oktoberfest is somewhat of a homecoming.

“I came back because I had a bunch of family here and all of our friends were coming back,” Cortney said. “It’s always good to see everybody.”

Cortney said Oktoberfest is not just for the Sidney community because people all around the Panhandle look forward to it as well.

“I feel like it’s just all about friends, family, beer, and catching up with everybody because Sidney is just a big family community,” Cortney said.

The Oktoberfest activities continue through Saturday with live music, a craft fair, free entertainment, and food at the Cheyenne County Fair Grounds.

“It's pretty cool coming back and seeing people who helped raise you and hanging out with them,” Hausmann said. “I guess it’s an excuse for all of us to get together.”
