Sidney man behind bars for terroristic threats

SIDNEY, Neb. -- A Sidney man is facing felony charges after allegedly pointing a firearm at an individual during an argument of child custody.

The Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office says that a woman came in to report an issue related to custody of her child. She said she attempted to pick up the child from the child's father, but the father informed her that the child was now with a family member in Colorado.

The woman reportedly told deputies that after an attempted pick-up, an argument between her and the child's father, 25-year-old David Retzer, ensued. At that point, she said, Retzer pointed a pellet rifle at her. According to the woman, she then got into her vehicle with another person and left.

Sheriff's deputies reported making contact with the driver of the vehicle and the driver told authorities that they saw Retzer holding and pointing the rifle. The driver said they were afraid and tried to get the child's mother back into the vehicle by honking the horn.

Deputies then made contact with Retzer to get his statement. Retzer reportedly told deputies that the child's mother came over to pick up the child, and he told her the child was with a family member in Denver. He said she was asked to leave, and she did so. Retzer denied pointing a firearm at anyone.

Deputies arrested Retzer for terroristic threats and domestic assault and was due for an arraignment hearing on Thursday.
