KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Nebraska State Patrol and other agencies arrested a Kearney man after a pursuit Wednesday morning that lead to the discovery of several pounds of methamphetamine.
NSP Troopers along with the Kearney Police Department and Tri-Cities Drug Enforcement Team (TRIDENT) Task Force arrested 49-year-old Randall Lizer Jr., of Kearney, after an early morning pursuit.
After the pursuit, troopers said they found eight lbs. of suspected meth in the vehicle.
Late Tuesday evening, the NSP said KPD notified troopers that the subject of an ongoing narcotics investigation may be traveling on Interstate 80.
Authorities reported the subject was believed to be traveling in a Chevrolet Impala.
Around 4:00 a.m. Wednesday, it was reported a trooper observed a vehicle matching that description speeding near the Elm Creek interchange on I-80.
The NSP said the vehicle exited I-80 at the Elm Creek interchange, at mile marker 257.
As the vehicle began traveling northbound on Highway 183, the NSP said the trooper attempted a traffic stop; but the vehicle fled and the trooper initiated a pursuit.
Officials said that as the Chevrolet fled northbound on Highway 183, speeding over 90 mph, another trooper was able to successfully deploy stop sticks.
The NSP said the suspect vehicle continued northbound, with deflating tires, for several miles before turning westbound on a county road.
According to the NSP, the trooper then performed a tactical vehicle intervention to bring the suspect vehicle to a stop.
It was reported the driver, Lizer, then attempted to flee on foot and refused repeated commands to stop.
Then, NSP said a trooper deployed a TASER device and was able to take the suspect into custody.
Troopers, according to authorities, searched the vehicle and located eight lbs. of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Lizer was lodged in Buffalo County Jail for flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver, resisting arrest, and obstructing a peace officer.
