KEARNEY, NE — The Kearney High football team is being recognized at the state level for its academic success.

The Bearcats are one of 10 schools to earn a Team Academic Excellence Award from the Nebraska Coaches Association, National Football Foundation and Sideline Power.

The team posted a cumulative 3.69 GPA, which was the highest GPA submitted in its classification.

“Our student-athletes work hard in the classroom, on the field, and in the community to represent the community of Kearney,” Head Coach Brandon Cool said in a news release.  “This award is a representation of their hard work and commitment to excellence.”

The team will be honored during a ceremony in Lincoln in July.

The recognition comes one week after the Kearney boys soccer team earned a national academic award.
