GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A temporary casino could be opening in Grand Island soon.

When the State Fair wraps up on Sept. 5, Elite Casinos and Fonner Park executives said they hope to start work on getting a temporary facility built on the Fonner Park Concourse.

Their hope is to have the building full of around 300 slot machines and several gambling tables before the year ends, but prospective gamblers have to get used to the temporary casino for a while.

Fonner Park officials said they expect the temporary facility to be operational around Thanksgiving.
they say the permanent facility is still a couple of years down the road.
