GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- A central Nebraska police chief is stepping down.

In a memo prepared for Tuesday night's Grand Island City Council meeting, indications were given that Grand Island Police Chief Robert Falldorf is retiring next year.

Falldorf, a 35-year veteran of the Grand Island Police Department, wrote a resignation letter to the city indicating that his last day will be January 13, 2023.

Among the city's agenda items at the Tuesday night council meeting will be a measure to increase the salary range for the next police chief.

Falldorf, who joined the police department in 1986, was named chief in 2016.
