GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Police in Grand Island are investigating after a fatality crash near College Street and Webb Road.

Grand Island Police warned that much of the area would be closed Thursday evening after the crash, with College Street shut off between Webb Road and Rue de College.

College Street opened up shortly after 6:30 p.m., roughly an hour after the crash.

The authorities have identified the victim who died in the crash, 33-year-old Adam Mirelez of Palmer.

Officials said that Mirelez was the lone occupant of the vehicle, and no one else sustained any injuries.

GIPD said that Mirelez was driving through an area bank parking lot, when he struck the back of another vehicle, causing his vehicle to spin and hit a building at an apartment complex.

Mirelez coded on the way to the hospital and was not able to be resuscitated.

Authorities are waiting for autopsy results to get more information on what caused the accident. They believe that speed was a factor, based on the amount of damage done to the vehicle.

The investigation remains ongoing.
