KEARNEY, NE — A central Nebraska non-profit is continuing with a superhero theme for its biggest fundraiser of the year.

Margot Icenogle-Larsen is the Executive Director for Kearney/Buffalo County CASA. She says the theme fits because everyone who helps with CASA is a superhero.

“They advocate countless hours and drive countless miles to go see their kids and advocate for them. Many people in the community - all of our sponsors - are great about being those superheroes that provide funding as well.”

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. Volunteers advocate for abused or neglected children by attending court hearings, family team meetings, talking with teachers and meeting with the kids. CASA will use funds raised at the gala to recruit more volunteers, and right now, they need them. There’s 14 children on the wait list.

“It’s about the kids and doing what’s best for them. They are our future and so if you want to volunteer and make a difference in a child’s life, just get ahold of us.”

The Superhero Gala is on Friday starting at 5:30. In addition to superhero-themed decorations, the event will include food, entertainment, a raffle, silent auction and a wine pull. You must buy your ticket in advance but you can participate in the auction remotely.
