KEARNEY, Neb. -- Authorities announced Wednesday afternoon that one person has died following a construction accident

Kearney Police were called to Blueprint Engines construction site for an injury accident just after 10:30 a.m.

Authorities said that preliminary information indicates that Ron Blessing, owner of Blessing Construction, was accidently run over by a bulldozer.

KPD officials said that following the accident, the bulldozer continued - unattended - traveling south through the field. The bulldozer traveled approximately a quarter mile before it got stuck in the north ditch along Coal Chute Road.

Officials said that witness statements and the preliminary investigation indicates Blessing had been operating the bulldozer prior to the accident.

Blessing was transported to CHI Good Samaritan by ambulance where he died from his injuries. The family has been notified.

"On behalf of myself, the entire Kearney Police Department and City of Kearney, our thoughts and prayers are with the Blessing family, Blessing Construction, and all those impacted by this tragic accident," said Chief Bryan Waugh.

Deputies from Buffalo County Sheriff's office and officers from the Kearney Police Department along with CHI Good Samaritan Hospital Paramedics responded to the scene.
