WNCC baseball weekend games moved, Cougars to Otero Thursday, Friday
The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team will open the home portion of their schedule with three straight home contests after this weekend’s games have been moved to Thursday and Friday.
The Western Nebraska Community College baseball team will open the home portion of their schedule with three straight home contests after this weekend’s games have been moved to Thursday and Friday.
WNCC will open the home portion of the schedule with a doubleheader against Miles Community College on Wednesday, March 2 beginning at noon.
The Cougars will then host Otero Junior College in doubleheader action on Thursday and Friday, March 3 and 4, with both contests slated for a 12 noon start. The Otero games were originally slated for Saturday and Sunday, but because of forecasted cold and wet weather, the contests were moved up to Thursday and Friday.
Both Otero contests will also be the Cougars first contests in Empire Conference action. Otero is 1-10 on the season after dropping three games to Trinidad State College over the weekend by scores of 5-4, 10-0, and 11-10.
WNCC’s Wednesday’s opponent, Miles Pioneers, come into the action at 1-3 falling to Northeastern Junior College 7-1, 8-5, and 11-6 before beating the Plainsmen in game four 9-8.
Miles has two area players on the team in Torrington, Wyoming, pitchers Caeden Riley and Cameron Murphy. Riley pitched 3.1 innings in the win against NJC with five strikeouts, while Murphy tossed one inning in the win.
After this week’s contest, the Cougars will head to Arizona for a Spring Break trip, beginning March 13.
